We are looking for a home for Rudy. Rudy was on the city shelter’s list of animals scheduled to be euthanized in the next 24 hours. Due to overcrowding, thousands of adoptable dogs are euthanized in NYC every year.
Rudy was one of those dogs. He was brought to the city shelter after someone found him walking the streets aimlessly in Queens. Since poor Rudy had kennel cough (a very curable sickness) he was immediately put on the kill list since the shelter doesn’t have the means to care for sick animals.
While many of us look at the kill list, post the list, repost the list, cry over the list, only some people take the proactive role of pulling dogs from the list. Lucky for Rudy though, two amazing folks saw Rudy’s post and decided that they were going to pull Rudy despite having a houseful of companion dogs and cats. They are not associated with a rescue group, just a couple of individuals that do whatever they can for dogs and cats in need. And I know that if we find a home for Rudy, these individuals will be right back at the shelter pulling another dog.
Rudy is currently being fostered with other dogs and cats. He is getting along with everyone. In addition he loves every single human he meets. He knows simple commands..sit, stay, shake..and learned fetch in a matter of minutes (he’s a smarty!)
He was recently neutered, is up to date on all vaccinations. He has been given a clean bill of health from his veterinarian. He is completely housebroken and is also crate trained.
You want to learn more about Rudy, check out this video:
So please help us find a home for Rudy! Or better yet adopt Rudy!

Ducky Needs a Place to Go Right Away:
This sweet gal was dropped off at a veterinary hospital in NYC recently. She was found abandoned and shivering in Bed-Stuy in Brooklyn. She is in desperate need of a home or a foster. She only has a few daysuntil she is brought to Animal Care and Control, and as many of us know the chances of a Pitbull getting out of the ACC alive are very slim. She has received veterinary care and is believed to be about 2-3 years old.
She has been very sweet with everyone that has handled her and also appears to be dog-friendly.
She is thin because she was most likely neglected or maybe used as a breeding dog.
Please be the one to turn things around for Ducky. She deserves so much more!
Please get in touch with any adoption or foster leads:

Hello from MooShoes.
Please join us on Sunday, December 9th from 12-4PM for an Adoption Day.
I (Erica) have been volunteering at Heavenly Angels. They’re filled to the brim and really need to find homes for all the critters that have been dumped on them (there are close 200) which means that this shelter is very overwhelmed.
I have gotten to know so many of these animals personally and am in love with so many of them. Their spirits remain high despite being stuck in a shelter. Let’s keep their hope alive by homing some of these amazing dogs and cats.
On Sunday, you will have the opportunity to meet:
Penelope—A 1-year-old Basset Hound mix, this shorty is a lover and is happiest in your lap. She gets along well with other dogs and all people (including children). How can you resist those eyes?
Visit Penelope’s Petfinder page for more information.
Scooter—Do you know how some dogs just call out to you? Well that was the story for me and Scooter. He seems a little shy initially, but warms up to his caregiver very quickly. He is a 2-year-old Schipperke mix. This breed is known for their devotion and loyalty. Although he has energy, he is still very well-suited for apartment life because he is great at keeping himself busy. He’s small enough that you can tote him around if you need to, but he is very content with just sitting in your lap and thinks rubdowns are the greatest! Visit Scooter’s Petfinder page for more details.
Luce—Ok, I’ll admit, I’m bias to Luce because he is a mini version of one of my dogs. He’s a little bundle of joy though and he loves everyone. But he’s looking for that special someone that’s going to love him back. He is young and energetic, so he’s best suited for someone that can be active with him (runners, I’m looking at you). He’s a 1-year-old Terrier mix. Take him home and we know that within a couple of days you will fall in love and wonder how you could have gone without him for so long. Find out more about Luce here.
We’ll also have some cats here available for adoption. You know we love cats. I mean, we have four of them in the store as it is. Most cats prefer having a companion or two, so you single-cat households—GET ON IT!
We so badly want to find these guys their forever homes that we are offering to pay half the adoption fee. We also have tons of recommendations for discounted vet care, pet sitting, and training.
We know that taking on a companion animal is a commitment, but it will be the best decision you ever make. And why stop at one…?
Help us make a dent in this homeless animal epidemic. If this is successful, we will continue to host even more critters looking for homes.
MooShoes will be participating in Fashion’s Night Out again this year—last year was so much fun, we couldn’t resist doing it again. Hope to see you there!

Go Vegan, Thanks!
Join us on Tuesday, August 7th at 7pm to celebrate the release of Woodstock Farm Sanctuary’s founder, Jenny Brown’s book, “The Lucky Ones: My Passionate Fight For Farm Animals”
In “The Lucky Ones: My Passionate Fight For Farm Animals” Jenny tells of how at the young age of 32 she’d already reached her goals in the documentary world working for the likes of Errol Morris, PBS’s Frontline, and the Discovery Channel. Then a dormant but deeply ingrained need to do something to really help animals rose to a head—an early mid-life crisis—and she volunteered for the Texas mission. She moved from Boston to rural Watkins Glen, New York, in 2002 to live and work at an animal sanctuary and learn all she could about shelter operations. There Jenny and her husband Doug found the confidence they needed to start a sanctuary of their own in Woodstock two years later. Today, Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary takes care of over two hundred rescued farm animals and has thousands of visitors annually. By placing people within eye contact of beings mostly known as food, the sanctuary changes hearts and minds about the animals abused in our industrialized food system.
We are very excited for this event. Jenny is a longtime friend and her passion for her work is evident and everything she says and does, plus she is super fun to be around.
Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary is truly one of my favorite places on the planet and visiting always reignites my fight for the plight of farm animals and I can only assume this book will have the same effect for me and you!
Jenny will be on hand to discuss the book, sign copies, and party with y’all (Jenny’s from Louiseville, by the way)
Books will be available for purchase.
There will also be some light refreshments.
These bags are handmade in Seattle, Washington, which is something that we don’t get a lot of these days. As someone that has been using her bags for years, I promise you that these bags last forever (well at least it is still going after 4 years of continuous use.)
Crystalyn, the designer and creator will be at MooShoes on Wednesday, June 27th from 4-7:30 with some of her one of a kind, never before seen designs available for purchase. Enjoy some light refreshments and get a chance to chat with the very talented Crystalyn.
